New Patient Consultation:
50 Min: R950
Consultation will begin with a detailed discussion about your pain followed by a thorough physical examination to inform diagnosis as well as understand the involved tissues. Consultation also helps determine any maintaining factors impeding recovery and screens for signs of serious conditions that would require referral. Osteopaths use a range of hands-on techniques to help reduce pain, increase joint mobility, relieve muscle tension and enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, encouraging the body’s own healing mechanisms to speed up tissue recovery.
Advice on lifestyle issues, diet and exercise may also be discussed.
What is Osteopathy…
Osteopathy is a manual therapy that aims to restore the normal function of the body by helping you provide the conditions it needs to heal itself.
It focuses on how the skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves,
blood and lymph vessels, connective tissue and internal
organs function together as a holistic unit. In the presence
of dysfunction its practitioners use both manual and physical therapy as well as lifestyle modification to reduce pain and speed up tissue recovery.
Referral from a GP is not necessary as Osteopaths are trained to both diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions, as well as refer for additional testing where indicated. Card payments will be accepted, and most medical aids will reimburse you for treatment from your savings component.
What conditions can osteopaths help with?
Osteopaths work with people ranging from children to older patients, office professionals manual workers, athletes and pregnant women. Osteopathy is used to aid healing for a wide variety of conditions and health concerns, aiming to create an optimal healing environment for the tissues of the body.
Commonly treated conditions include:

Joint pain (including osteoarthritis)
-
Certain types of headache

Sciatica

General aches and pains

Dry needling is a skilled therapy which uses fine filament needles to penetrate the skin and underlying muscle and connective tissue. It may involve one or a combination of dynamic needling and periosteal pecking. *
Some of the effects of dry needling as indicated by the current literature:
-
Pain reduction
-
Increased joint range of motion
-
Reduce localised muscle tension
During dynamic needling the needle is slowly moved in and out of the tissue. Periosteal pecking is a therapeutic technique in which the tip of the needle contacts the periosteum (the connective tissue surrounding the underlying bone). Stimulation of the periosteal nerve endings activates the pain inhibiting mechanism in the central nervous system, thereby decreasing pain and inflammation.
